East Asia is different, China and Japan were already established and powerful and while the dissolution of Qing and the second world war temporarily damaged both nations they recovered, the US destroyed much of Japans traditional culture and what they have now is a blend of the two, the US pumped endless money into both Korea and Japan for rebuilding, and even then Korea was still completely fucked until a few decades ago. China mostly made it's way to the position it has now on its own, which is very impressive, but the same was true for many Arab nations before their regimes were toppled, the dictatorship in China is just much more secure.
Post-WW2 arab nations are actually a very good example, as many of them did very well under and many still do today, if Islam is so utterly destructive then why do theocracies like Saudi Arabia manage so well? Clearly many more factors are at play here than just a religion.
