The biggest hurdle, is always the language. You can get used to the culture differences, but unless you know the language or the Japanese girls you meet know English (and don't have a problem with you not knowing Japanese), you will be riding on a road that never intersects the other.

Here in the US I've met a few Japanese, Korean, and Chinese people (born there and moved here and learned English, all of them were girls) and you have to take the initiative and start a conversation and build a friendship and advance the relationship beyond friendship (just like any other relationship). At that point it simply just comes down to the individual and whether she actually likes you or not. It's really rare to find a woman who was born in Japan that wants to move anywhere else for the rest of her life though so keep that in mind.

My experience is addicts look for every reason to use until they lose everything. It's sad but most of them have to hit absolute rock bottom before they are willing to admit that they have a problem. They almost universally think they know better than professionals, and everyone thinks they are a special case and "they have it figured out". It is actually a little funny to hear people talking about how it's a good idea to shoot heroin and everything is fine.

Agreed. It makes people psychological children who refuse to be present in their own lives. One of the biggest parts of helping a person break a drug or alcohol addiction is teaching them how to be a damn adult and actually withstand life frustration without escaping into their addiction.

Personally, I think that it stunts psychological development. I'm sure that there are people who use them and function OK, but there is a certain kind of person that it absolutely burns every good thing out of their lives. we may not have a problem with drugs but there are A LOT of smokers here, i remember 2 years ago or 3 they put in practice a law about no-smoking in closed public areas and almost half of the country got mad, the law still applies

There are pros and cons to legalization. I live in Nevada where Marijuana was legalized and almost immediately after we had a huge influx of 12 and 13 year olds so smoked out they could barely function.

I do think that it might be a good idea to take the "cool" out of drugs by making them common place, but I don't think that it is a good idea to have 7-11 selling heroin either and having some junkie leave aids syringes on a playground.

I think that there is a line to be drawn between enforcement and education with personal choice but I don't know where that might be.

Another thing is that I tend to see bad cases. I don't tend to see people who have their shit together and this is of course flavoring my opinion.

Another consideration is that I only see Americans and Mexicans generally and there may be cultural factors that make Greeks less likely to lose control (for example, if you grew up with wine at the table, it is not such a big deal and you are less likely to drink to excess) My clinical experience with addicts might look completely different in your country.
