That's 8 hours 5 days a week.
Let's say you commute is two hours. That leaves you with about 14 hours to yourself. You obviously need sleep, so that takes away another 8 to ten hours. So now you have around 4 to 6 hours of freetime, right? Wrong, you need to run errands and do other pointless shit like doing the laundry and what not.

You are only free on the weekends and even then it's just two days. Not enough to have a fulfilling life.
You basically only live for your boss at that point.

Why not simply work 10 hours on Monday and Tuesday, then 9 hours on Thursday and 7 hours on Friday?

It's called the donut shift.
And it'll give you 3 nights to do stuff,(Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday nights) and two entire rest days(Wednesday and Sunday).

This maximizes work hours and recovery hours.
Plus a break mid week will boost your productive hours, meaning the work you get done won't suffer.
