Are there more autists in the 21st century than ever before, or is autism just getting more attention now? If the former is correct, why is that the case? Everytime the subject gets brought up there’s different answers and it’s fucking annoying now. Please help /bant/ I’m bamboozeld.

In 1800 the world population was just 1 billion humans, by 1960 the human population hit 3 billion. We are now at 7.5 billion and adding 50-100 million a year (so yes, there are more autistic people and mentally ill people and just people in general by several magnitudes). Just let that sink in for a bit.

We stopped letting natural selection do its job. Instead of letting problematic people die, we pay more taxes to help them live on like zombies. This doesn't just mean more autists, it means more mental health issues in general. This is part of why we have so many shootings in America. Yes, the ease of access to guns contributes and we should have some restrictions on them but sane people don't look at guns and say "I'm going to kill a lot of people with that."
