No, it's like being fat. In how you can diet all you want, but if your lifestyle causes you to be fat it won't matter. Likewise if your depressed and you just hide it with pills or try to fill the void with other junk, you're never dealing with the root issue that causes you to be depressed.

But I don't know what the root issue is. Even when you try new activities, try and see more people, leave the house more often, you still feel the same when you come home. That's when you're tempted to eat junk food or drink alcohol (alcohol is terrible for depression).

What's the best anti-depressant drug? Tried Paroxetine didn't work, Citalopram works at first then turns me into a zombie, Setreline (Zoloft) made me loopy when I first tried that about nine years ago.
CBT therapy only works temperoraly, then when you finish your little measly sessions you go back to how you were.

I take venlafaxine myself. It works pretty well for me, but if you forget to take it, even for one or 2 days, then the withdrawal symptoms can be pretty bad. I've done that a few times myself, it makes you feel really drowsy and have suicidal ideations. So I try to remember to take it...

If you want a real answer, as a biochemist I can give you one. It's a vicious cycle for starters, eating fatty, processed foods can cause a chemical reaction in your brain similar to the usage of illicit drugs. What you're experiencing is a little glitch in your brain's reward system, however studies have shown that binge eating fatty foods has a pro-depressive effect as well. So you feed into it more and more and get caught in a loop.
