>>450764>>125469615>What were the 90s like?We actually still believed the baby-boomer mentality of "I can go to college and get a good job".
P.C. culture was mostly considered a joke; the people advocating massive censorship were older, right-wing religious types, not college students.
The culture of "perpetual war" wasn't fully established. We thought Bush's "Gulf War" and Clinton's brief Kosovo action were the last wars we'd have to deal with.
Pre-9/11, we never thought about Islamic terrorism. Europe was actually still considered a SAFE place to go on vacation...! Immigration was a problem, but nothing like today.
America (and western civilization in general) were still considered a "safe" place, insulated from the barbarisms of the third world.
School shootings were rare and shocking.
Colleges were actually a place where people could DISCUSS AND DEBATE IDEAS WITH EACH OTHER. Organizations like "Debate Clubs" actually existed in high schools and colleges. It would have been unthinkable to show up to an event and scream and chant like a retard simply because you disagreed with the speaker's opinion.
The general public's worldview was less complex, as the internet was in its infancy. No social media. No texting. If you wanted to communicate with someone, you dialed their number on a landline phone. You had to memorize peoples' phone numbers, in case you needed to call someone from a pay phone. If you wanted to know about world events, you read a newspaper, a magazine, or watched the news on TV. If you wanted to research a subject, ANY SUBJECT, you went to the library.
Cell phones existed, sure, but in a large, crude form, and very few people used them; they weren't really commonplace in the public sphere until around 2003-2005.
