>>4539962That's true, but op probably wanders why wasn't it handed to Lithuania after fall of USSR. That's actually quite interesting, it's just inhabited mostly by Russians, not Lithuanians, Poles, or any other natinality. After getting this part from Germany and kicking Germans out of it it had to be inhabited again. And smart Russians decided that they should send their own compatriots there instead of Lithuanians. So, the only country who could have a reason to get this land upon USSR's decay was Russia.
