Different types of videogames usually require a different specific skill, that you can become adept at by playing. Types of videogame are incredibly diverse; some you can play in passing (like idle games), some require constant attention (like RTS games), some require coordination and reaction speed (like rhythm games), some require forward thinking and planning (like strategy games) etc.
To say all videogames are just "pushing the shoot button for hours" is disingenuous.
People also talk about videogames a lot, there are large websites and communities everywhere dedicated to it. People will always discuss things they're into with like minded people, videogames are no exception.
