I cut the tip of my thumb off on Christmas. I keep my nails extremely short. Basically everything above the nail was cut off. I didn't go to the hospital and it bled for about three days. There's nothing there that can really hurt you so it just sucks. Nothing a hospital can really do about something like that. There's nothing to stitch in that scenario.
It bled VERY heavily for about a day. The first towel I wrapped around it looked like I murdered someone. The next day I got gauze and stuff. I put a band aid over the top, wrapped that in gauze and the used medical tape. I would bleed through that every 4-5 hours for the first few days. You just gotta keep it really clean when something is open like that.
Bleeding for a long period of time isn't always a trip to the hospital. Just depends on what's bleeding. If there are no veins or arteries in that area you're most likely good.
