There is nothing to be proud of, if it isnt something you have done yourself. Being American, Canadian, French, German, Greek... those arent things to be proud about, they happened at random.
Be proud you passed those classes in uni. Be proud your brother found a gf. Be proud you finaly did that thing you wanted to do.
Being an American is passive. You just are. You didnt work for it, you didnt earn it, you didnt even choose it.
Unless of couyrse you mean you are proud that your country is the way it is and i am misunderstanding things. In that case, my apologies.
