>>481706Japan has a lot going for it. It's the safest 1st world country in the world, it has one of the top education programs in the world, too. Petty crime like theft and vandalize simply don't happen in most parts of the country, and the absence of guns give it the lowest homicide rate of any country in the world.
-The food is incredible, and cheap.
-Cost of living is very low, depending of course on where you are and where you're from.
-The women are gorgeous and the concept of casual sex is widely accepted in the young-adult crowd.
-Public transportation is cheap, always on time and ridiculously well designed.
-Japanese people will go out of their way to be courteous and accepting.
- I can think of other reasons but that's probably enough.
I've never thought of Russian as a "cool" language personally, and the country itself is a 2nd world shithole. It's a failing, drastically corrupt state, many areas of which are apparently completely lawless. The government has been neck-deep in human rights violations for decades, and it's run by a corrupt, power-mad ex-spook with no compunctions of invading nearby territories if it will make him look tough. Russia is dangerous.
Were I going to learn a new language, I would focus on one that would be of immediate personal benefit in my job or life. Russia doesn't occur to me to be a place I want my life to head.
>>481728All of what I said above, BUT if it's already similar to your language, then learning it would probably be pretty easy and you should probably go for it.
