>>4865605Earthbound is the second best game of all time next to mother 3 and everyone who plays it basically agrees.
>>4865625I think it's more just underknown. The people who play it usually love it.
>>4865629Undertale really ripped it off with the ending. The rest of it was different enough for me and I don't think the criticism of it being overly influenced is fair. Undertale was also just too short and there was too much forced homosexuality and tumblr-tier humor and aesthetics.
>>4865631Good thing you can play it on PC for free and only a sperg would actually buy it.
>>4865670They said "this game stinks" because there's a part of the game where you fight vomit monsters in a sewer and they thought they could sell it with juvenile gross out humor. Even if that did work, there still would have been the problem of most of the game not being like that.
>>4865699The combat systems leaves something to be desired if you're expecting something really exciting. The fun part about it is really talking to NPCs and watching the story unfold. I played it when I was still in high school if I remember right though, so I had more time and less responsibility and I could afford to really get into it. Shit gets really weird and deep later on in the game.
>>4865707You're missing out, fren.
>>4865839I really blame the battle system for all the people who don't finish it. I was immediately charmed by everything about it, so it wasn't a problem for me, but the real value and emotional impact is mainly in the mid-late game. You could try mother 3 since it's actually a better game in my opinion, and it's more narratively focused and quick to hook the player in with impactful events early on.
