There was at one point millions of them approaching a billion, and nobody ever thought that they could be brought down low no matter how many you casually shot, since they were as common as ants. So people shot them, and hunted them, and killed them for sport. It seemed like they were endless and invincible, with two more rising up for each one downed, but eventually... they all died. Through just putting lead in enough pigeons, the passenger pigeon was driven extinct.
It might seem like the frogposters are endless and banning one wouldn't have any wide range effects, but if you keep banning them one after another and do that consistently, like the passenger pigeon they'll eventually have no users to fall back on. But that's not going to happen if the mods think it's too much effort to do their jobs on a consistent basis.
