From what I've seen of his show, he doesn't do the super-upset shtick very much, he does sort of an understated and sarcastic kinda deal, and I you can see it in the clip I posted. If his jokes revolved around being upset a lot (does John Oliver do this? I think he might) then I would get the joke, but they don't seem to so I don't get it.
