Yeah, nepotism is how I got started up too. It can be hard without any relatives or friends/ acquaintances so you have to rely on yourself and no one else. That is why nepotism is important to me.

Luckily I'm a truck driver making approx 14 after all the unpaid working hours surrounded by texting pajeets and nogs driving 80 to go deliver their toilet paper cargo. 70+ hrs a week, 90+ days in a row.

I'm an hvac tech and recently started a job at 18/hr which is a decent living in AZ
They're already talking about raises, shit is great
Also don't have to walk on eggshell around my coworkers, we all shoot the shit and no one gets triggered

Really wishing I had taken a trade, but ever since I was young my parents pushed hard that "you'll be a ditch digger if you don't go to university!" I once talked to my mom about being a plumber, my cousins fiance was talking to me about how much money he makes, which was substantial relative to anything I've ever made. She basically scalded me and asked why I would ever want to be knee deep in shit water all day. She has a point about the shit water, but I regret ever listening to them. I do construction in the summer and I'm surrounded by addicts and truly stupid people but I love working outside and coming home muddy and tired from a hard days work surrounded by giant excavators and rock trucks. But alas I am 50k in debt and on the downward slope to 30. I don't think I could logistically afford to go to school anymore, not until at least half of that debt is gone.

There is nothing wrong with your parents helping you get an epic job. It's the payoff for being a good parent. Assuming kid is competent.

Who you know is HUGE. I'll sure as hell being using my reputation to get my kid into MIT. I've accomplished things that will make decision makers trust me. I'll use that for my son and feel great about it. He has the ability through as well, but I'm not making it a crapshoot when he's a white male.
