Socialism is basically Cuba. The workers have the mean of production, but currency and the state still exist. The state is entirely composed of workers and representative of workers, and it still exists if there are hostile imperialist powers, or in Cuba's literal case, right next door.

They turned on the people by converting the socialized nations into state capitalist countries with social securities, and that's where most of the criticisms come from. They're the ones you're referring to about betraying the revolution, and indeed they have.
>we need a government that will listenThe Soviet Union was a democracy during Lenin's time, and yes, it was still democratic in Stalin's time. Lenin lost on things he voted for, and Stalin attempted to resign a handful of time, but people still voted him to stay.
I personally want an equal ground for Marxist-Leninists, Maoists, Luxemburgists, Anarchists, and other leftists to discuss on via party systems instead of just one party. That's achievable in Democratic Socialism, but no social democrats though.
