>>5138647-True story-
3 weeks ago, my water heater broke. For the first week, I could still start it back up, only to have the leaks short out the switch that keeps the pilot going. The second week, the system went dud and refused to kick over after being lit. On the 3rd week, I couldn't even ignite it anymore. So I've had no hot water for 2 weeks.
Now, if you're wondering why I'm not replacing it like a sane person, the thing was still under warranty, and holy shit, the hoops they make you jump through are godawful. Water heater warranties are probably the biggest scam in existence. Hardly anyone has what takes to wait that long to get hot water again, so they suck it up and just buy a new one.
For the first week, it was like bathing in daggers. The second week, I got used to it, but it still kills the fingers. I work a tough job that leaves me sore, and I've noticed I DO feel better with cold water than with hot, but I'd rather take the overall relaxation hot water gives to help me wind down. Also, since I started this job, I've notably started losing a lot of weight I put on about 4 years ago, about a pound & a half per week. With the first week of cold showers, that raised to 2 pounds. On the third week, after I got mostly used to the freezing water, it rose to 2.5.
So yeah, it does something. Every other thing you may have heard about it is bullshit.
