Even in Russia where spousal abuse is common, the people there don't believe in violence against women and will usually believe a woman's rape accusation. The legal system doesn't express this gynocentric thought, and it's true that there are many vodkaholics who beat their wives there, but most of them simply wouldn't respond to a woman in distress with hostile laughter. This level of aggression and violence towards the indisposable sex would make the proliferation of our species impossible if it had any basis in human instinct.
