That every low income poor neighborhood has a dozen pits because they're the flavor of the decade tough dog. That the dog is available to everyone because they're in every shelter and rescue and Wal-Mart parking lot being given away. That there's plenty of other breeds that were 'bred' for aggression that are still around and primarily owned by rich people who can afford to feed a 120lb dog. That the various pit breeds rank very well when it comes to passing service/work dog requirements. That mutting various other breeds to take the place of a pit would not be difficult, particularly the mastiff.
The permit argument arises because that's the only logical solution to the idea of banning and completely culling any one breed, which would require you to ban or cull other breeds in the future. Focusing on the fact that pits are overrepresented in the bite/kill statistic without asking why that is. Allow me to give you two more examples of why this could be illogical reasoning.
