Chika is a schizophrenia sufferer that used her idol leader powers to turn her hallucinatory friends into a real group of school idol girls called the Aqours. The girls developed wills of their own, but continued to play along with Chika's delusions of being an idol group out of obligation. All of the girls (except Chika) died after a car accident in Mari's van, and Chika was put into a coma. The end of the series is coma'd Chika dreaming about what could have been if they all survived and won Love Live. The curtain falling at the end of the last episode is supposed to represent the moment that Chika finally dies after "finding her radiance", or accepting her death.
