I have never watched this anime nor do I have any desire to start watching it

the series had some value in that it revitalized the anime industry, but there's no reason to watch it in this day and age. the whole "plot" is one giant troll.

the only thing that could be remotely recommended is the rebooted film series, but even that's only for visuals and A E S T H E T I C S.

I would recommend that you watch it. It's a very well made anime but for the love of god keep away from the pretendious fansbase. Also keep in mind that every symbol shown is just for visual effect. The mindfuckery comes in the last 2 episodes and the movie the end of evangelion
