Socialism doesn't hate freedom of the press at all, but "freedom of the press" in capitalism isn't really freedom to choose what they want to say, it's freedom from whom they get their donations and what they want to say in their favor.
For example, Vox is an utter dogshit piece of press. It holds the neoliberal values of Western media by praising Europe and everything about America that's not involving Trump, but then they'd parrot war-mongering propaganda by advocating to invade Russia and Syria and Korea.
