>>528470anime is designed entirely around being as effective as a means of escapism as possible, because that's where the money comes from for the industry. the cartoon industry doesnt go after that audience and goes after a wider mainstream audience instead, so people dont get obsessed with it (some anime does to the cartoon mainstream thing though, but those are not what gives it its special reputation)
