without fail, every single time, when someone discusses politics, they are the dumbest of the whole group.
not sometimes or occasionally, but every. single. time. it has gotten to the point where if i'm with a group of people and someone starts discussing politics, i make a mental note to avoid working with them in the future because there's a 100% chance they are dumb and/or incompetent at their work.
and conversely, people who are worth talking to have a wide variety of interests, are well read, and have many interesting technical topics to bring to the table. and for that reason they never need to stoop down to the level of political discussion.
