How does organized crime affect you in your country? Is it common? I only have to worry about misc. street gangs in Chicago trying to stick me up.

Calling the crime here organized would be an insult to grunts and footpads everywhere. It's definitely rampant thought. Gotta watch your back if you walk anywhere. You might get robbed or raped. You aren't allowed to carry ANY sort of weapon, not even for self defense unless you obtain a near impossible to obtain permit. Our police force is trying to do their best with the limited resources they have, but they're using 20th century tools in the 21st century. Our government and political parties are the culmination of corruption and incompetence. The only way for this country to be saved is a civil war, and the goal would have to be destroying our parties and reforming a new one...problem is that it'd be a repeat of other Carribean countries and eventually become a dictatorship until either the US or Britain steps in. But hey, we apparently have near 0 risk of terrorist activities, on the bright side.
No matter how you slice it, we're fucked though.

But yeah, getting a revolution going would be easy. Most of the people here are weak-minded, and the ones that get in my way I COULD just overcome by force. Problem is that me leading could probably get us into international trouble due to the strict "eye for an eye" way I do things. Not to mention I'd be putting myself in harm's way. That and this very post is probably being monitored. I think I'd better stay away from leading anything bigger than a household or an office project.

That'd probably destroy the country quicker, because we basically make our money by being a tourist destination and tax haven. The country has no way to sustain itself other than that stuff. We literally just got a functiong agricultural program like 5 years ago and hardly anyone wants to take part in it. But you know, maybe this country needs to be destroyed to rise to "okay-ness" once more. It's a dark day when mediocrity becomes a dream.
Of course, I'm also going to mention that I'm just speaking hypothetically. I'm not actually going to go out and start a revolution. Not anytime soon, at least.

Of course, there are mobs, and I'm sure several of those are active in my city but I never experienced any of that.
Now, in the neighbouring part of the city (My city is comprised of 3 or 4 bigger towns and a fuckton of small villages inbetween, technically, it is a big city) it's different.
Few years ago, there was a big shootout between kurds and turks. Nobody died, though.

I live on the border with mexico and the only thing we really have to worry about is assholes stealing cars (mostly jeeps/SUVs/trucks) so they can send them back to chop shops over the border. I have a friend who had his classic-ass jeep (one of the good ones with a M/T and the I6, not the wussy I4) stolen from right in front of his parents' house. And they live in the "rich"/"nice" part of the "white" side of town, where the houses all go for >$700k (Texas).

meanwhile I dont think anyone's ever had their car stolen or their house broken into in my neighborhood and we live in the squarely "lower-to-middle-middle-class" zip code
