>>5388287From the study:
>trans women (MTF), male-assigned cross-dressers, and gender non-conforming/genderqueer people assigned male at birth, lifetime suicide attempt rates were found to be lower among those who perceivedothers as only “occasionally” or “never” being able to tell they are transgender or gender non-conforming, compared to those who thought that others could “always,” “most of the time,” or “sometimes” tell.
Given they specifically mention crossdressers who never feel trans, it's not implied. Being trans is what makes people wanna kill themselves, not the hormone replacement therapy and surgery around that.
This reminds me of a story, people noticed a correlation between a prescription acne medication and increased suicide rates, and it was almost banned before people realized that it was actually the severe acne that the people were using that was causing the suicides, not the medication.
I think what we can take away from this study is we probably shouldn't be telling trans people they aught to be on a cross if we want to prevent people from trying to kill themselves.
