Running out the clock

Anyone else feel like they’re waiting for their parents to die so they can finally get on with life? Things like wife, kids, moving to another state or another country, etc?

I like to think I’ll get some kind of inheritance, but i’m also thinking my parents will complicate it enough just to piss me off from the grave and i’ll be lucky to see even $500,000.

When I look at the bigger picture, I feel like I’ve allowed them to control my life just enough so I’ll get an inheritance, but I think at this point, whatever I get actually won’t be worth the trade. They spend tons of money on European vacations. And of course they’re liberals. They may even live to 100. They just don’t seem like they’re going to have what they pretend they’re going to have when they die. And of course they don’t talk about it.

Any Gen-Xers in a similar boat?

On a side note, my father has NPD and my mother is his codependent. I have noticed other NPD/codependent pairs in the business world subconsciously “move the goalposts” with anyone they work with — just like NPD/codependent parents do to their children. It’s very insane and can fuck up your life a lot or a bit if you’re not careful. Watch out for that dynamic.
