Autistic people were the first synthetics to exist according to a source from the CIA. They were created to see if technology could success reproduce a human in its entirety. So they took a random selection of infants and replaced them with synthetic replicas while in the hospital.
Those Synths are unknowingly all connected to a quasi-hive mind.
