>>5496063Russians didn't have endless resources and were on their last leg manpower wise in 1945. Every one but america was war weary by 1944, and the US public and military began to show signs of it by winter 1944 when they were reaching tens of thousands killed; most soldiers were conscripts who did not want to be there and outside of very well lead units most were suffering from poor morale and mutinous feelings. Had the german generals been allowed to pull back to more defensible lines, and act on their own impulse, the Soviets would've suffered even more casualties and perhaps might not even have been able to reach the vistula let alone the danube, and in the west an early armoured counter attack against the normandy coast coinciding with the severe weather storms of early june would've decimated the allies and made reinforcement impossible; certainly, if allowed to fall back to more defensible lines to avoid encirclement, the german resistance in the west would've completely demoralized the allied armies. The germans would have never won, but they couldve exhausted the allies and soviets into peace. Winning war isn't as simple as having having more men and resources than the enemy. If that were the case vietnam and Iraq wouldve been the 51st and 52nd states.
