It's because building, renting or buying a place with central air conditioning costs more money and also because many older homes just don't include it as a feature, even in warmer areas.

It's more expensive to build and maintain and it also increases the value of a place so it even costs more to buy or rent after it's already built.

If you have an old apartment in the city, most likely there is no central air. Some cities don’t get terribly hot so AC isn’t needed during the day, only at night. If that’s the case it’s a waste to cool a whole house.
If you have a small work shed all you need is a window unit if you want it to be colder.
Most new homes have central AC units.

I think most people still do it because thats the way its always been. Some comments from bongs lead me to believe that air conditioning was more popular in the US than in bongland, and central air is a reletivly new concept for the home. Many burgers still use these window units because thats just what they've always had. They still have theirs from last year, and in 5 years when it breaks they'll just buy a new one.

thats backwards to how it works. You want that cool night air.
In the summer it will be 100F and 95% humidity in the day, and the night air fees like the ac is on compared to the day. I would intentionally sleep all day just to be up during the cool night in the summers when I was younger.
note that I dont consider the 100f to be extremely high, but the humidity makes it miserable.

Depends on the age of the buildings. Suburbs tend to be mostly wood houses even if they are partially brick. Makes it easy to put ducting in the walls to move the air through.

Alot of the city houses are straight brick like in your pick. Harder to put the ducts in no space/ Essentially you have to just have the ducts exposed or drywall around them. Either way its obtrusive and a pain in the ass.

tldr: old houses are a pain to put centralized ac into.
