look into the neo-geo consoles.

Go with the full console to start with. Better video quality possible, the CD expansion available, and fewer hardware problems in general (bad caps, etc).
I have one myself, had it since it's release. Never had a problem with it.

Why the fuck do you want to buy an extremely expensive console with extremely expensive games that also appear on other consoles from that era and are also cheaper? Just buy a combo of a Sega Genesis + Snes, that shit shares the majority of the games. (except for that "muh castlevania" game)

Get a PC Engine duo instead. It can play PC Engine CD games and Hucards. But keep in mind some CD games require so called Arcade cards for more ram.
