It's not the 1900s anymore where every picture must be captured on film, taken in and developed over time using money. Pictures can be taken at any time, anywhere on a phone or other mobile device and then viewed and shared instantly afterward. Because of this, people have taken to snapping pictures of literally everything, including pictures of themselves making dumb facial expressions. Just as duckface caught on in the late 00's, 2010-20XX seems to be filled with guys making dumb facial expressions, though this one conveying a childish excitement. The expression looks retarded, just like anything that "trends", but anybody who reads too much into it is just as dumb as the expression is itself.
