>>577362i'll concede it is A factor; i just don't think it's a particularly important one when we're discussing the decline of masculinity in the west. like if i were to have the rank them, i'd place it well below the replacement of competitive, physical hobbies with sedentary ones, higher engagement in education and the indocrination thereby, monogamy, Judeochristian Slave-morality, political ideologies that emphasise society over the individual, a culture encouraging amicable rather than violent resolution of conflict.
note: personally, i don't have an issue with the 'pussification' of the west. i subscribe to the belief that the relative femininity of humans in comparison to other primates has been central to the advancement of our species. there are some theories that posit that our lengthier maturation process, which ends with a weaker, more feminine body, has both given us our bulbous, neuroplastic brains, which allows us to learn into adulthood unlike other species, and also makes us more socially cohesive, allowing us calm the fuck down, not spend all our time fighting, and instead build bridges and things. in this sense, western men becoming a little gay can be viewed as the price we pay for having the internet, healthcare, and food in our refrigerators. meanwhile, all those 'real manly men' over in africa are beating bongos and picking lice from their festering nude buttocks.
