I thought this was common knowledge especially among younger people? (i'm a 30 something boomer and i literally don't even have a facebook account and it's mainly because i'm old enough to understand how social media works and was suspicious of fb from the get-go when suddenly the narrative went from "don't even post your real name online" to "everyone is on fb! it's ok to post every detail about yourself online and let facebook and practically anyone else monitor your every action movement and thought! )

Never had a Facebook account, unironically. Now, it’s moved to Instagram. Attention whores like that place more. I used it temporarily to text some friends, but even then I absolutely despised the sheer self indulgence, narcissism and decadence created by the site.

Facebook exists for unironic boomers and for news anchors to talk about 24/7 as if it's still a new thing. So far as I'm concerned "social media" began with bulletin board systems back in the late 80s and has simply gotten more sophisticated since.
