It would've been so easy to just give everybody the happy they wanted and at least leave off on a good note. now it's just yet another lackluster mecha anime with a "bittersweet" ending except even the sweet part isn't even warranted since the bad guys literally won yet everyone acts like the day was saved anyway.
I'd say i feel cheated but i have no one to blame but i myself for getting even remotely invested in it despite all the redflags

The last 4 episodes or so had to be rewritten to make the ending alright. Though there was a missed opportunity with the whole hiro tuning into a klaxosaur. Like, seriously, you see his eyes turn bye for 10 minutes, and then he dies.
