if you're a depressed/angsty teen going through a phace it might genuinely help you out since growing up is a one of it's major themes and it handles it pretty well.
the mecha action is there and it's good but it's not really the focus, "mechs" themselves are pretty cool though.
girls are cute.
later half of the movie gets weird and you may or may not like it.
