The settings.dat didn't work! Is there anything else I can try?
A few additional troubleshooting steps you can take are:
* Verify intergrity of the game cache on Steam. You can get to this option by right clicking Saints Row 2 in your game library, and selecting Properties -> Local Files -> Verify integrity of game cache
* Remove or disable all non-essential usb devices. Sometimes the game mistakenly identifies a usb device as a controller which can cause a crash.
* Temporarily disable your 2nd monitor
* Change the way the game launches:
Find the SR2 executable in windows explorer
..\steam\steamapps\common\saints row 2\SR2_pc.exe
Right-click on the file, and select Properties.
on the Compatibility tab, run the program in compatibility mode for Windows XP.
Also, "disable visual themes", and "disable desktop composition" options.
* One user has reported that unchecking the Disable all enhancements option in their speaker properties fixed the crashing:
Control Panel -> Sound -> Speakers -> Properties -> Enhancements -> Disable all enhancements
http://img818.imageshack.us/img818/3074/sr2speakers.jpgThis fix might be related to surround sound since Red Faction Guerilla (built on the SR2 engine) had issues running in surround for some hardware and had to be set to stereo. More info needed.
