If you give this victory to animal rights advocates, horses are next. Horses suffer too, at least in some places they are still bred for meat, but horse races or riding them could be considered animal cruelty some time ahead (just think how far activist have gone on certain topics, and look videos of horses breaking their legs while racing). Then what, zoos? (at this point in time I would be ok with closing down most zoos, they had another purpose aside from entertainment, nowadays there are better ways to study animals/provide shelter. But closing them all would be detrimental). Next would be probably farms, etc
In summary, it's a longer debate that most people think. To allow animal cruelty or lose forever that breed.
