It's all a show. It's all bullshit.
Listen, the Beatles' fame was astroturfed, and it was the first successful run of a particularly contrived playbook. The first iterations failed in that Elvis wasn't a versatile and adventurous enough of performer to have a lasting impact, and that Buddy Holly died quite unexpectedly. In general, the American highway, referred to in the music industry at the time as the "chitlin circuit", is a dangerous and unpredictable place to this very day. The Beatles' lack of proximity to ground zero offered the ability to cultivate the experience in a more sterilized and controlled space.
But that's not to say these people are crafted in a laboratory. The archetypes certainly are contrived, and candidates, hopefully being a healthy combination of dumb, greedy, and attention whoring are pre-selected.
Kill your idols. The future of humanity depends on it.
You're kidding yourself if you think two guys write twenty-seven Billboard No. 1's without a committee of social engineers discussing full-time what manipulates the widest demographic set. Enjoy the music if you do, but try to love it for what it is, instead of for this annoying and cloying fantasy.
