>>603144DBZ was commercialized, dragged out, and put too much emphasis on action, but it was still deep, provocative, and soulful taken as a whole.
Dragonball however, was on a whole other level. I watched all of DBZ, every season going over a period of months, and had a great time, but I had to take breaks and so on.
Dragonball on the other hand, whoa. I was floored, jaw dropped to the ground. I had to set myself a quota of only three episodes a day so I could drag it out an enjoy it more. It was a blast, so funny, charming, full of adventure, it was both more innocent and mature at the same time than DBZ. I was in fact emotional when I popped the final disc in, and saw only a couple of episodes left, with everything ending with Goku and Chi Chi getting married.
It was an "action show," but I say that very tentatively. It was more balanced between adventure, humor, drama, and so on. I love, love, love it in a way I never appreciated DBZ.
If you all haven't experienced the majesty of the original Dragonball, I don't know what else I can say to convince you.
