The copper they use to conduct the power from the batteries to the motors is so resistant, far too much of the power gets lost in transition and the whole system starts overheating.
The current power limit in F1 is around 750hp, dictated by engine and turbo sizes and mileage targets.
Formula E doesn't use half that power and they already overheat when they push it, all due to copper's properties.
Electric won't make it big in racing unless they take graphene or that other new exotic conductor out of the research labs and into race cars. I'd expect LMP1 to be the cradle for that tech.
