I got it when I did the obligatory military service. I am not allowed to have ammunition with me at home, but I am allowed to have the weapon here. Mainly for reasons like fast mobilization in case of war. Of course, Switzerland would probably not get attacked, but this reaches far back to the second world war when the fear of a german invasion was very big.
I must train with it every year atleast once and need to fulfill some requirements like precise shooting.
If war would break out, most of the men would be prepared for it in switzerland, they would only need to get their ammunition from the state and we could defend our country.
