All your good scientists are immigrants and your produce isn't good enough for export.
And the US has never clearly won or lost a war, it just causes unnecessary destruction after butting into the business of other countries.

Literally the only things that would change if your country vanished is that third world countries would stop getting bombed so much, and the world would be less likely to end in nuclear fire.

The US has questionable education, shit infrastructure, shit healthcare, and a semi-corrupt government.

NZ meanwhile has decent education (NCEA and universities still need work though), good infrastructure (public transport is overpriced though), good healthcare, and a fair government where third parties do pretty well.

How does it feel knowing a backwater island that only really started with civilisation in the mid-19th century is ahead of your old country in all metrics that matter for the individual?

Funny thing is, back in the cold war, both meanings would have given the same labels to each country, because the US wasn't shit then and a lot of the countries that are better now were shit.

People in third world countries want to go to the USA, people in second world countries (US and China especially) want to go to NZ. Or Canada.
