I was recently shopping at ala moana and some Japanese tourist and her kid passed by me and the kid pointed to the moomin shop across the railing as if he wanted to go there.
Ala moana is a pretty big tourist destination so it would make sense to set up a moomin shop there if they knew it would attract the Japanese audience. I don't know much about moomin but it seems that it blew up in Japan for whatever reason.
