The various British accents have all gone through extreme metamorphoses since then. Therefore, it would be more accurate to call the "American" option "Traditional" and having the British option as an alternative (though not simplified.) This is also ignoring things such as reversing the artificial spelling reforms put into English by the British prior to the colonization of America, such as the addition of "u" to words like "color" and "flavor" with the intention of making them seem more "French".
