I smoked for 10 years, quit about 5 years ago with the gum. I was only addicted to nicotine itself, and pretty much hated everything else about smoking aside from it being an easy way to meet other smokers.. but most women who smoke are trashy, smelly, and have other bad habits so anyway.. used the nicotine gum for about a month and a half, weened off that and haven't smoked in 5 years since.
protip for the gum: follow the directions. don't chew it constantly till its tapped out like you would normal gum.. try to chew as little and as slowly as you can.. try to get used to a steady trickle of nicotine instead of a quick hit like a smoke.. then it's easier to ween off that slow trickle
