>>6262211Discipline is different than just hitting. It's used to discourage behavior that doesn't always have immediate or predictable consequences. Like for instance crossing a street without looking. 9 times out of 10 the kid will be fine but when a car finally does plow him over it's a little to late for him to learn from experience. Discipline should only be used when necessary, that is when a child is the age that he cannot fully appreciate the consequences of his actions. Hitting is just one of many forms discipline. Every child is different and the most effective form of punishment is different as well. Some children are horrified by spankings while others veiw it as a one a done thing that let's them quickly get back to doing whatever bad behavior they were engaging in. The moral issue should not be with the form of punishment, but it's application. If a child does not understand why they are being punished, you are simply inflicting pain and hardship with no benefit to anyone.
