Most NON-English speaking countries, specially in Latin America and Europe, refer to people from the USA as "Estadounidenses", "Etats-Uniens", etc. (United Statian) which is the right way to call them, because anyone who's born in the American Continent, it's an American.

It's like if there was a country in Europe, named United States of Europe, and they auto call themselves "Europeans", anyone how lived in Europe would be an European, not just people from that country; in the same way, anyone who lives in America(s) is an American not just people from the USA.

If you guys want to demand to be called Americans as well I recommend stepping up to the plate and making your voice heard. Making the potential energy of the majority of the South American continent would likely help. Go finally run down Argentina and figure out a way to own Brazil, and then come back as a much larger, not communist South America headquartered in Santiago.

A big reason why we us "Americans" instead of "Statesers" is because English has no good inherent ending that works for any word that denotes a group of people: for example "Engl- ish" "Germa- n" "Syr -ian".
