Man and Woman were damaged and incapable of living the life that was set out for them. They had gain knowledge that wasn't meant for them.
Adam and Eve were corrupted from that point on. The result is obvious:
Eve's pregnancy would be painful, because her body was rejecting the corrupted offspring which she was giving birth to.
Adam would hate his wife and would dominate her from that point on, and his sons would follow in his bad example.
The ground from which they came, which was still a part of them. was also corrupted. Adam would not receive the full fruitage of the Earth, and farming became a hard chore.
The Earth had rejected them and did not want to not give them life. They would die.
Eating the tree of life would have extended their life, but also cemented the corruption in them forever. They were expelled from the Garden to save them from themselves.
The wages that sin pays is death. Death pays for your sin, and you become free from your corruption.
Faith in the resurrection of Jesus is faith that we can be resurrected too, and that life can continue for us in a state free from the corruption of Adam and Eve.
Naturally of course, Satan has ultimately disappear for the corruption to not appear again. You are here, waiting for Satan to dealt with first.
