I'm way too autistic to hold a normal relationship with people, so the links I end up making with people in rela life are quite shallow, and disappear soon after. 1 month usually is enough.
But online, it's different: I become more of an extrovert and I make deeper bonds with people. It's also easier and more convenient to just meet up and chat via TS and games.
I've made my best friends through video games, people I'm still talking to on a regular basis and that I've known for years.
